Hermann Göring himself gave the go-ahead for this operation but in an act of betrayal of the Luftwaffe's sympathy and compassion for Douglas Bader (who the Germans treated with respect), the bombers proceeded to attack Gosnay Power Station (near Bethune), and, fortunately for the Germans, bad weather lessened the impact.
